Follow the historic Mortimer Trail through the stunning landscapes of the Welsh Marches. This challenging walk takes you from medieval Ludlow, through ancient woodlands and hillforts, to the historic village of Titley.

Daily Itinerary

DAY 1

Arrive at the Lodge from 3pm in time for tea and freshly baked cake. (Complimentary pick up is available from Ludlow Station) Settle into your rooms and take a walk around the grounds.

Enjoy a light dinner* at the Lodge prepared with fresh local produce.

DAY 2

Start your day with a visit to our unique Georgian cold bath for an early morning plunge.

After a delicious breakfast, today's route will take you on a circular route via Ludlow enabling you to enjoy all the delights of Ludlow including Ludlow Castle and understand the history behind the town, the Mortimer Family and indeed The Mortimer Trail. Today's walk will include the first part of the Mortimer Trail.

Highlights along the way include Ludlow Castle, Ludlow Museum and St Laurence's Church. Ludlow is full of lovely coffee shops, fantastic antiques, and vintage clothing shops so there is lots to explore and savour.

Tea and cake will be ready for your return.

Complimentary two course dinner in the fabulous dining room. Pre-dinner cocktails* and canapes* can be provided. Wine* is also available with dinner.

Full walking time approximately 3- 4 hours (without stops). (Direct walk into Ludlow 30 mins).

DAY 3

Start your day with a re-energising class of yoga*.

After a delicious breakfast, today's walk will take you along the second leg of The Mortimer Trail, over Climbing Jack and onto the stunning views from Croft Ambrey Hill Fort and down into Aymestrey. Packed lunches will be provided.

This evening guests have a choice of staying at the Riverside Inn at Aymestrey (all bookings, transferred etc will be arranged and included in the price) or coming back to the Lodge where dinner* can be arranged locally or provided in the dining room.

Approximate walking time 5-6 hours (with no stops)

DAY 4

After a delicious breakfast, todays walk will be the longest taking you along the final leg of the stunning Mortimer Trail. Guests that have returned to the Lodge will be transferred back to Aymestrey to commence the walk.

Today is the toughest day walking but it takes you through some stunning Herefordshire countryside.

At the end of the walk walkers will be picked up from Titley and transferred back to the lodge where complimentary tea and cake will waiting.

Dinner* can be arranged in the dining room or at one of the fantastic local places to eat.

DAY 5

Start your day with a final dip in the invigorating cold bath before having a delicious cooked breakfast in the dining room.

Guests are welcome to explore the grounds of the Lodge and Arabella can give additional maps for walking before the guests depart.

EXTRA DAY

An extra day's stay* can be arranged if you would like to do an additional day of walking and finish The Mortimer Trail at Kington.

Gentle terrain, walking on good level paths, with a few short, usually gentle, ascents and/or descents.

Walking along well-established paths and tracks. Occasional loose surfaces, and open meadows. Ascents and/or descents up to 1 hour.

Walking along a variety of paths, some stony/slippy in places, with ascents and/or descents of 1-2 hours.
